Obituary For Mrs. Marion Virginia Medley Dillard
Mrs. Marion Virginia Medley Dillard was born July 22, 1928, in Beards Fork, West Virginia to the late Ira and Allie Medley. She transitioned from her earthly pilgrimage to her eternal home in Heaven on Monday, July 28, 2025.
Marion, a lifelong member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, loved the Lord and was a kind and caring Christian whose faith guided her every step. She sang in the choir, served in Mission work and the Helping Hands community group, and was proudly known as the oldest living βMother of the Church.β
Marion graduated from Simmons High School in Montgomery, WV. Following graduation, she worked at Montgomery Hospital as a nursing assistant, providing care and compassion to others at an early age. In later years, she worked at O.J. Morrison Department Store in Charleston, WV but was most rewarded in her work as a mother and homemaker.
Marion lovingly cared for her aging parents and was the heart and soul of her family. As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she brought light, laughter, and comfort to countless moments. Her quick wit, remarkable memory and unwavering devotion touched generations.
Marion, thoughtful and engaging, enjoyed spending time with family and friends as well as quiet time watching her favorite TV shows Judge Judy, The Andy Griffith Show, and General Hospital. She was also known for her sweet potato pies - βthe best this side of the Blue Ridge Mountains.β
Marion lived a life of caring and giving to others. She gave generously throughout her life, supporting St. Jude Childrenβs Research Hospital and orphaned children abroad. Her kindness knew no borders.
Marionβs home was filled with warmth, laughter, and welcome. Whether chatting with neighbors or sharing a smile, she lived a life of purpose and connection.
Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in the legacy she leavesβa life anchored in faith, love, and grace. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
Marion, in addition to her late husband, Theodore Dillard; former husband, Samuel βSammyβ Roberson Sr.; and parents, Ira and Allie Medley; was preceded in death by brothers, Robert βBobbyβ, Albert, and Harold and sisters, Carolyn βCCβ, Ruth, Edna, Inez and grandson, Austin Roberson.
Marion leaves a legacy of generosity and devotion to family and friends.
Marion is survived by sons, Samaal Roberson (Denise) of Murrieta, California; Kimball Roberson (Yvonne) of Abingdon, MD; and Garry Roberson of Beards Fork, WV; daughters, Rosalind Lawrence of Alexandria, VA, Gwendolyn Roberson of Silver Spring, MD and Vickie Mullins (Darrell) of Beards Fork, WV; stepdaughters, Linda Kay Dillard of Beards Fork, WV (her loving and lifelong caregiver) and Florence Clack of White Plains, NY; grandchildren, Yolanda Dillard, Corey Dillard, Meghan Mullins, Kayla Mullins, Cameron Roberson, Tijera Roberson, Nicholas Taylor; great-grandchildren, DeLon Dillard and Malayha Hamrick and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
