Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Mary Jo Burton Pankey Brown, 72, of Summerlee, WV died Friday, March 6, 2015.

Born November 21, 1942 in Reform, Alabama she was the daughter of the late Virgil and Janie Jones Burton.

She was a teacherÆs aide at Summerlee and Rosedale Elementary Schools. She was a faithful and dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Summerlee for 45 years, serving as Superintendent of Sunday School, financial secretary, and a member of WomenÆs Missionary Circle, and Choir.

Left to cherish precious memories are her four loving and caring children, Jeffery (Lynn) Pankey and William Gregory (Marilyn) Pankey, both of Charlotte, NC, Elizabeth Pankey of Summerlee, and Christine (Terence) Thomas of Newport News, VA.; grandchildren, Ashley and Alexander Pankey, Marilyn, Jarius, Miah, and Jonathan Pankey, all of Charlotte, NC, Sheaniequa and Kylisha Pankey of Summerlee, and Ebony Thomas of Newport News, VA; sisters, Emily Burton and Betty Cunningham, both of Tucaloosa, AL; sisters-in-law, Dr. Margaretta Seay-Bell and Evangelist Virginia Brown, both of Summerlee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Homegoing Service will be 1:00p.m., Saturday, March 14, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Summerlee, Allman Street, Summerlee, WV with Rev. William R. Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill, WV. Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the church.
