Obituary For Mrs. Mary Magdaline Cousins

Mrs. Mary Magdaline Cousins, 93, of Beckley, WV was called to her eternal home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Monday, November 27, 2023.

Mrs. Mary Cousins was born March 20, 1930, in Stanaford City, WV, she was the daughter of the late Wendel Tyler and Lucy Carey Cousins.

Mary was a homemaker, she was a faithful member of the Mt. Vernon Church, Lanark, WV where she sang in the choir until her health declined. Mary never met a stranger, she was well known throughout her community, and loved by everyone that knew her.

Mary, in addition to her father and mother, was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Cousins; sons, James Cousins, Eric Cousins, Larry Cousins and two stillborn sons; daughter, Joann Simon; grandsons, Michael Powell, William Simon, Terrill Cousins, and Kevin Cousins; granddaughters, Carla Cousins, Michelle Powell, and Teona Cousins; son-in-law, Norman Powell, and brother-in-law. Kenneth Freeman.

Mary leaves to cherish precious memories son Carl Cousins of Laurel, Mississippi, daughters Mary Alice (Larry) Moore, Diana (Jerome) Bradley, with whom she resided, and Loretta Powell, all of Beckley, WV, Teresa Logan of Charleston, WV, and Tracy Cousins of Parkersburg, WV, sister, Gloria Freeman of Beckley, WV; 19 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; 37 great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great grandchild, son- in-law, Rudolph “Chucky” Simon, daughter -in-laws, Rebecca Cousins and Suquita Cousins; two nieces, Kennita (Jason)Cheese and Keisha (Damon) Hamby; 2 great-nieces; 4 great-nephews and a host of other relatives and friends, whom she loved abundantly.

Funeral service will be 12:00PM Friday, December 8, 2023 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church 141 New Guinea Ave. Lanark, WV with Pastor Damon Hamby and Pastor Brian Wallington officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Friends, while wearing masks and observing social distancing, may view and visit with the family one hour prior to the funeral service.

This afternoon when my Mother gave me the news it really hit me hard. No trip to Good 'Old Down Home West Virginia was ever complete without a visit to see Mrs. Mary and Family.
