Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Mrs. Mattie Geneva "Miss Mattie" Bolling, 101, of Galax, VA, formerly of Long Branch, WV, died Friday, May 13, 2016, after living a blessed life for over a century.

Born September 3, 1914, in Kimberly, WV, she was the daughter of the late Willie Ann Laury and Cornelius C. Wilkerson.

She grew up in Long Branch, and attended DuBois High School, Mount Hope, WV.

Miss Mattie accepted Christ at an early age and was affiliated with Long Branch Missionary Baptist Church, Long Branch, Morning Star Baptist Church, Beckley, Mount Zion Baptist Church, Joliet, IL; Rhema Christian Center, Lewisburg and most recently, McMillian Ministries, Galax, VA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Bolling; son, Xavier Millner Bolling; two brothers, James and Willie Wilkerson; and three sisters, Ruth Moore, Edith Cottrell and Dorcas Thompson.

Left to cherish her memory are four daughters, Virginia (Donald) A. Boyd Hoover of Columbus, OH, Josepha "Josie" Bolling Thompson, Galax, VA, Denise (Ray) Bolling, Charlotte, NC and Alicia (James) Braswell, Elgin, IL; grandson, London Tyler Bradley; and a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Funeral service will be 3:00pm Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Morning Star Baptist Church, Beckley, WV with Rev. Charles E. Gore officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
