Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Mrs. Ophelia M. Belcher, 90, passed away, Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Raleigh General Hospital, she was the daughter of the late George and Queen Victoria Collier (Madison).

She was a faithful member of the Welcome Baptist Church for more than 50 years serving the call of Christian duty as a deaconess, missionary society member, usher, and a member of the Mothers board.

Mrs. Belcher was a 1942 graduate of Stratton High School and was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Amicae (Friends of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.), Homemakers Club and the American Legion.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Eli Motley and Deacon John Belcher; sister, Mary Ruth Miller; son, David; daughters, Marion and Christy.

Mrs. Belcher is survived by her sons, Ronald (Cordelia), Samuel (Mildred), Frank (Cathy), Quincy, step-son, Wendell John; daughters, Victoria (Rodney) and Nancy as well as a great-great grandchild, 27 great grandchildren, 17 grandchildren and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Blessed by God for 90 years. the celebration of her life will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 19, 2015 at the Welcome Baptist Church 206 Eighth Street, Beckley. The family moments of visitation will be one hour prior to the celebration at the church with Pastor David Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park in Beckley.
