Obituary For Jeff Gillies
Gillies, Jeffrey “Jeff” (1988-2025)
It is with broken hearts and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Jeff Gillies, a beloved husband, devoted father, cherished son, brother, and coach, who left us far too soon. Jeff leaves behind a legacy of love, leadership, and lasting impact in the lives of many. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Brytni (nee Nott) Gillies, and the proud and endlessly loving father to Lawson, Baker, Hayes, and Palmer — his greatest joys and his proudest accomplishments. Jeff was the deeply loved son of Rob and Denise Gillies, and the treasured brother of Greg Gillies (De) and the late Amanda Gillies (December 2024) and cherished uncle of Aria. Jeff was also the adored grandson of Bob Gillies and Jack & June White. He was deeply loved by his in-laws Sherry and Jeff Nott, as well as many extended family members, friends and teammates. Jeff was born in St. Thomas on January 8th, 1988 and grew up in the New Sarum area. His passion and talent for hockey developed at an early age and carried him through a long and successful playing career, during which he earned respect on and off the ice. After retiring from competition, his love for the sport never faded. Instead, it evolved into a passion for coaching and mentoring young athletes across Southwestern Ontario. As the founder and head coach of Battle Hockey, Jeff dedicated his time and heart to developing not just skilled players, but confident and resilient young people. His coaching philosophy went far beyond the game—he taught life lessons through discipline, perseverance, and heart. Jeff also founded the LM Lightning Organization, a dynamic and ambitious hockey team that proudly competes in the prestigious Klevr Super League, Toronto. His presence brought laughter, drive, and a genuine sense of camaraderie to everyone who worked alongside him. Jeff touched countless lives — as a coach, a friend, a father, a husband, and a son. He had an infectious spirit, a generous heart, and a rare ability to connect with others in a meaningful way. His sudden passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A private family service will be held. Cremation to follow. A public celebration of Jeff’s life will be held at The Joe Thornton Community Centre, 75 Caso Xing, St. Thomas, ON on Friday, May 16th from 1-3pm. Words will be spoken at 1pm. As a tribute to Jeff and his love of the game, we encourage you to wear your favourite hockey jersey. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Gillies Family via the GoFundMe link: https://gofund.me/ce480ece
