Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Mrs. Rita Jean Walton Jones, 71, of Mt. Hope, WV passed peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, November 3, 2021.

Rita was born March 12, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Hubert and Gertrude Armstead Walton.

Rita resided in Mt. Hope with her daughter, Snisia and had a deep passion for working with the elderly there. She was a 1970 graduate of Mount Hope High School and received her CNA certification from Oak Hill VoTech and worked at several nursing homes, including Hidden Valley, Hilltop, and Rural Acres Access Health and was also a babysitter.

Rita, in addition to her parents, was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Adolpohus Jones; and relatives, Donna Walton, Ralph Edward Walton, Sean Abbott Lowe, Sheena Jones, Carrie Jones, David Walton, William Walton, Dewayne Gore, Nail Walton, and great granddaughter, Neriah A. Lovejoy.

Rita leaves to share precious memories her special sons, Micheal D Nicholes, Ronald Thomas, and Terry Hicks; daughters, Misty M Jones of Beckley, Michela D Jones and Snisia D. Jones, both of Mt. Hope, WV; special daughter, Angie Gray; grandchildren, Desean A Jones, Shaliyah M Jones, Emmitt A Jones, Richard Scruggs, Jabri Jones, Thaddous Jones, Sean Bunting, Christian Howell, Annie Johnson, and Caleb Baker; great-grandchildren, Eden G Jones, Deseann A Jones, Scott A Jones, Nzyah Jones, Zayne Hicks, Isreal Bickford, Miana Walton, Samiria Jones, Zanique Tabb, Zemia Tabb, and Conor Bunting; siblings, Hubert A. Walton, Robin Chianumba, David Walton, Elliestein Walton, Sandra Morgan, Tony (Paula) Walton, Andrew M Walton; special cousin, Gloria Eaton, special friends, Velma Jean Allen, Patricia Ann Hannah, Johnnie Mae Smith, Theresa Bradley, Annette Rogers, Stewart Payne, Lennie, Louise, and Lindsay Powell and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Saturday, November 13, 2021, at the Glorious Church of God in Christ, 421 Main Street, Mt. Hope with Elder Thomas Allen. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may view one hour prior to the service at the church.
