Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Mrs. Rosetta Marie ôChummieö Dow Burger, 75, died Tuesday, April 12, 2016 following a long illness.

Born June 13, 1940 in Raleigh, WV, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Luther Dow and Marie Bertha Liggins.

ôChummieö worked at Beckley Manufacturing Company, Beckley Glass House, E.M. Payne, Hub & Vogue Clothing Stores and retired as a waitress at Black Knight Country Club. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Temple and the Prayer Warriors under Pastor Louise Staples.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Lauravilla Jeanette Newsome; Vivian Jean Rutland; brothers, Lawrence Luther ôDog Biscuitö Dow, Charles ôPeanieö Dow; half-brother, Lawrence ôSnookö Dow and brothers-in-law, Reverend Amos William Newsome and William C. Green.

Those left to cherish precious memories are her husband, James Rufus Burger; daughter, Lauravilla Nichole Jones; grandchildren, Santia Marie Maddox (Fred) of Decatur, GA; Sajia Worley, Korithin Worley and Emmanuel Rome Jones all of Beckley, WV; great- grandchildren, Jaylon Rosser and Serenity Maddox of Decatur, GA; brothers, Elder Clarence (June) Dow of Upper Marlboro, MD, Harold ôPeteö (Charlene) Dow of Beckley, WV; sisters, Violet Ann Green and Brenda (Carlton) Cunningham of Beckley, WV; brother-in-law, Elbie Rutland Jr.; sisters-in-law, Ruth Dow and Marlene Dow of San Francisco, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 1:00pm Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Saint Paul Baptist Temple Church, 129 Rice Street, Beckley, WV with Rev. Walter M. Leach officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
