Obituary For Mrs. Shirley Jean Green

Mrs. Shirley “Jean” Green, 89, of Beckley, WV went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 5, 2023 after a short illness.

Shirley was born on November 6, 1933, in Kingston, WV, where she lived until she graduated from Simmons High School. She married the love of her life in 1952 and they were inseparable until his death in 1992. Although Shirley’s primary occupation was “Wife & Mom-in-Chief”, she sometimes found pleasure in sharing her time and talents at The Hairport as a receptionist, PBS Telethon events, Raleigh County Jail as a cook and traveled as an AARP representative under the Greenthumb Program.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph C. Green, Sr.; parents, Lonnie and Elsie Dean Carter; brother, James Carter, and son, Rudolph C. Green Jr.

Shirley rededicated her life to the Lord and was baptized at Ebenezer Baptist Church on September 20, 1998, and spent the rest of her earthly days focusing on living a life growing closer to her heavenly home.

Shirley, prior to COVID, could often be found serving in her Church as an usher. Shirley had the gift of laughter and would frequently laugh so hard that tears would stream down her face. She also loved to travel with family and friends to special places like Hawaii, New Mexico, Alaska, Paris, England, The Bahamas, Las Vegas and The Grand Canyon, just to name a few.

Shirley, at the time of her passing, was survived by her older sister, Clara Corbett, who suddenly transitioned on August 7, 2023.

Shirley leaves to mourn her children, Darlene Green-Higginbotham of Rand, WV, Kordula Green of Atlanta, GA, Michael (Davina) Green of Greensboro, NC, and Steven Green (Charlene) of Greensboro, NC; grandchildren, Shayla Higginbotham, Mickayla Green, Kaitlyn Green, Clay Green, Rose Green; great-grandchild, Waverly Williams; special “angel” niece, Debbra Carter and a host of other beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral service will be 12:00PM Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Heart of God Ministries 1703 S. Kanawha St. Beckley with Pastor Walter M. Leach officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Friends, while wearing masks and observing social distancing, may view and visit with the family one hour prior.
