Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Mrs. Velma Gaye Evans, 91, of Beckley, WV passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.

Velma was born August 6, 1931 in London, WV, she was the daughter of the late Virginia Scott.

Velma worked as a housekeeper for many years.

Velma was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Beckley for over 50 years. She loved her church so much.

Velma had a very quiet sweet spirit that you could feel anytime you were around her.

Velma was a great homemaker, an awesome mom who loved her children and grandchildren. Her hobbies were bingo, working puzzles, and watching TV game shows. She also loved going to the Raleigh County Commission on Aging, where she met many people and had plenty of friends.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Evans Jr.; son, Jackie Evans and daughters, Gail, and Carmella Evans.

Velma leaves to cherish precious memories, her sons, Timothy Evans of CA, Gerry Evans of Beckley, WV, and Reggie (Lori) Evans of FL; daughters, Ginger Evans of CA, Regina Evans of Columbus, OH; brother, James Thomas of Cleveland, OH; sister, Marcline Scott of Jacksonville, FL; 25 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Funeral service will be 12:00PM Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church 142 Mool Ave. Beckley with Rev. Jerry Staples officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends may view and visit with the family one-hour prior.
