Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Mrs. Vivian Imogene Patterson, 87, of Beckley, WV, died Wednesday, November 11, 2015.

Born January 15, 1928 in Monytown, WV, she was the daughter of the late Spencer and Mamie Coles Young.

A woman of many talents, her most respected position was held at Wyoming General Hospital, where she was a cook and surgical aide. She served as the secretary for the local UMWA Burial Fund.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Robert L. Patterson; sons, Dr. Walter Patterson and Dr. Samuel Benjamin Patterson; daughter, Delma Viola Patterson-White; grandchildren, Terri Afuge, Anita Afuge, Catherine Patterson, Michael Patterson, Joseph Patterson, Carolyn Ann Patterson, and Angelia Deneise Patterson.

She is survived by three sons, Robert L. (Anna) Patterson Jr. of Dededo, Guam, James L. (SF Shirley) Patterson, of Orange VA, Carl A. (Janine) Patterson of Bowie, MD; a very special grandson, Carl S. (Kim) Patterson of Beckley, WV; two brothers, James Young of Clinton, MD and Roosevelt Young of FL; three sisters, Emma Burke of Lester, WV, Mildred Henry of Indiana and Sadie (Doug) Parker of MD; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 12:00 PM Saturday, November 21, 2015 at St. Paul Baptist Temple, 129 Rice Street, Beckley, with Reverend Walter Leach officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity. Friends may call one hour prior to service at the church.
