Obituary For Ms. Annette Burks
Mrs. Annette โNetโ Burks, 62 of Lanark, WV transitioned from this Earth to be with our Lord on April 5, 2025 following a long illness.
Annette was born on October 24, 1962 in Queens, New York to the late Dora Cousins.
Annette was the youngest out of two children. Annette, her mother and sister moved to WV when she was very young. Annette was a 1981 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. After graduation, she moved to Currie, NC for a short period of time.
Annette, while in NC, worked several odd jobs before returning back to WV.
Annette, upon her return, met the love of her life, Henry โMitchโ Burks. They started dating at the age of 21 and were married July 14, 1994.
Annetteโs career started in cooking and baking at The Heritage House, where she became famous for making bread pudding and chili just to name a few. She worked there until the restaurant closed. She later worked at the second Walmart that opened in Beckley until her health failed her.
Annette was also a member of Mount Vernon Church in Lanark, where she was a dedicated member of the adult gospel choir and was the assistant director of the hospitality committee; evangelist team; and the family ministry group.
Annette loved spending time with her grandchildren, taking them on multiple vacation trips and spoiling them with her famous brownies and no bake cookies.
Annette, in addition to her parents, was preceded in death by her husband, Henry โMitchโ Burks; grandparents, James and Mary Sue Daniel Moore and nephews, James Moore and Lil Ricky Thompson.
Annette leaves to cherish precious memories her son, Brandon Burks of Lanark, WV; daughter, Monique Moore of Durham, NC; sister, Doreen Moore of Lanark, WV; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a host of aunties; one special niece; several nephews and cousins and too many special friends to name them all. She was truly loved by many.
Family directed memorial service will be 12:00PM Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church 141 New Guinea Ave. Beckley with Pastor Damon Hamby officiating.
Friends, while wearing masks and observing social distancing, may visit with the family one-hour prior.
