Obituary For Ms. Darlene Glendora Pennix-Thompson
Ms. Darlene Glendora Pennix-Thompson, departed this life for eternal life on Monday, March 15, 2025 at her home in Beckley, WV, she was 68 years old.
Darlene was the daughter of the late Patricia Pennix-Levant, Harold Levant, stepfather and the Adopted daughter of John and Helen Pennix.
Darlene accepted Christ at an early age, was Baptized at Mount Olive Baptist Church, Alpoca, WV. She was a faithful member, attending church regularly, her beliefs were strong.
Darlene, a few years ago, joined the Church of God of America under Pastor Randy Anderson, in Beckley, WV, she was still an active member until her death.
Darlene was a 1974 graduate of Mullens High School, Mullens, WV.
Darlene attended West Virginia State College, Institute, WV. She worked at the State Capitol in Charleston, WV.
Darlene, on September 20, 1983, gave birth to a son, Andre Pennix, the love of her life.
Darlene moved back to Beckley, WV, where she worked several different jobs, each having to use her customer relation skills. She loved interacting with people, greeting everyone with a ready smile. She was quick to start a conversation with anyone with a friendly face. She had a ready laugh if she was told a joke or anything funny, she would laugh until she cried.
Darlene loved her son, she loved life and she loved people. She had very good, loyal friends that looked out for her. She was always ready to lend a helping hand even though she didn’t have much herself, she was a giver from her heart. She finally found her calling when she started working in healthcare, she loved taking care of those needing extra care, she left after becoming disabled.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Shirley Reece and Gloria Moore; brother, John Levant; and niece, Camille Lewis- Pittman.
Darlene leaves a Legacy of “love, laughter and strong commitments to family by her example” to her son, Andre Pennix and Gretchen Skoglund of Port Orange, FL, two brothers, Sterling Larry Pennix of Alpoca, WV and Harold Kim Levant Jr. of Bronx NY; sister, JoAnn Lewis of Poughkeepsie, NY; two granddaughters, Takira Rychelle Gore-Pennix of North Augusta, SC, Cayden Noelle Pridemore of Wayne, WV and a host of loving relatives, her church family and special friends, Jeff Barry (caregiver), Rob McClung, Rev. Calvin Moore Jr, Sandra Scott, Brenda Scott and Yolanda Miller, they all checked on her ensuring she was okay and had what she needed along with doing chores when she was not physically able.
Funeral service will be 12:00PM Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at the Ritchie & Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel 748 S. Fayette St. Beckley with Pastor Randy Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.
Friends, while wearing masks and observing social distancing, may visit with the family one-hour prior.
