Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Ms. Geraldine E. Gilbert began her Earthly Life on December 3, 1934 in Winding Gulf, WV. She entered Eternal Life on December 20, 2020 in Beckley, WV. Known as “Nanny”, Geraldine was the daughter of the late John Walter and Mary Little Gilbert. Geraldine graduated from Stratton High School in 1952 and attended Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, Ohio and later finished her studies at Beckley College in Beckley, West Virginia. Geraldine worked at Beckley Manufacturing and later retired as an Interviewer lll for the Bureau of Employment Programs after 25 years and 10 months of service. Geraldine was a faithful member of St. Matthew AME Church, serving as a stewardess and a missionary; as well as a member of the choir and kitchen committee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ethel L. Kidd. Left to cherish precious memories are her daughter, Kimberly E. Gilbert; grandchildren, Joshua (Ashleigh) Barrett and Raine Hill, both of Beckley; five great-grandchildren, Jamyious, A’Jalea, Kaleigh, Jace and Ryder Barrett, all of Beckley; special nephew, William “Billy” Kidd of California; goddaughter, Mathel Ross of Beckley and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 12:30PM Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the Ritchie & Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel 748 S. Fayette St. Beckley with Rev. Debra Smoot officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum, Beckley.

Friends may call beginning at 12:00Noon.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, gloves, masks and social distancing will be required to attend the service.
