Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Ms. Jerlena E. McFarland, 72, of Columbus, OH, formerly of Summerlee, WV was called home on Saturday, January 15, 2022.

Lena was born to John and Beulah (Clintella Williams) McFarland on February 10, 1949 in Lochgelly, WV.

Lena was a loving and spirited person. She liked to joke with people because she loved to see people smile. Known as Lena to family and friends, she instilled within her children that family is important and that you always take care of each other. Lena was a mother, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a cousin, and a friend to a great host of people. She made sure that she was available for her entire family for anyone who wanted to talk with her. She was a great listener and gave good advice. She was always in the corner of her children and grandchildren, but she was not afraid to tell them when they were wrong and that they had to make things right.

Lena was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Wilbert ”Butch” McFarland, Isaac “Ike” McFarland, William “Bill” McFarland, Jethro and Jeffrey McFarland; sisters, Joyce McFarland and Rhonda McFarland.

Lena is survived in this world by her children, Jeffrey McFarland, Theresa McFarland, Danielle McFarland, Jason McFarland, Chekeisa Wynn and Nakeisha McFarland; grandchildren, Marcus, Marcellas, Michael, DeAndre, Davon, Claire, Kinsleigh, Alyssa, Madison, Sha’Michael, DezJuan, John Isaac, Dion, and Aaliyah; great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Madison, Journey, Nalaya, Madelyn, and Rylee; brothers, Terry McFarland, Kenneth McFarland, Forrest McFarland; sisters, Mary Howard, Myra Stevens, and Kathy Chatfield and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be 11am Friday, January 28, 2022 at Spirit & Truth Ministries 100 Main St W, Oak Hill with Rev. Sam Calloway, Rev. Richard Stevens and Rev. Kenneth McFarland officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Friends, while wearing masks and observing social distancing, may view and visit with the family one hour prior to the funeral service.
