Obituary For Ms. LaTonya Antoinette Wooten

LaTonya's Life Journey

Ms. LaTonya Wooten, 59, of Detroit, MI formerly of Beckley, WV passed Thursday, November 7, 2024.

LaTonya Antoinette Wooten was born to Vernard Wooten Sr. and Shirley Wooten on November 16, 1964 in Beckley, WV.

LaTonya was a Born -Again Christian.

She was educated in Raleigh County School System. LaTonya continued her studies after high school, graduating from Beckley College and Concord University. After receiving her college degree, she moved to Wayne, MI.

LaTonya was employed as a schoolteacher at Beard Elementary, (that is now Roberto Clemente' Elementary) in Southwest Detroit. Later on, LaTonya earned her master's degree from the University of Michigan.

LaTonya served as a teacher and worked for over 25 years in the Detroit Public Schools. Upon her retirement, LaTonya moved back to ALMOST HEAVEN, WEST VIRGINIA.

LaTonya was so loved by her family and church family, Greater Mt. Everett Church of God in Ferndale, Michigan, Faith Temple of Deliverance, Beckley, WV and Triumphant Pentecostal Church, Mount Airy, NC.

LaTonya was busy spreading her love from MI, WV and NC. LaTonya was one who was always willing to show the love of Jesus Christ. She would often feel the Spirit of the Lord in her sanctified feet and dancing for the Lord was no problem!

When it came to her family and friends, LaTonya always had a genuine outpouring of love, her nickname was "Mother Theresa". LaTonya will be truly missed; we know she has moved to a better home in glory.

LaTonya is survived by her brother, Keith and wife Vickie; Godmother Rose Fisher; sister/cousin, Andrea Morgan; nephew, Khallid and children; nieces, Somer and children, Maria and children (Emmanuel and Eden); Goddaughter, Jennifer Litwalk and children, loyal friend, Alicia Keaton; best friend, Candice Pankey; long-time friend, Gloria Allen; aunts and uncles, also a large host of cousins and Godchildren.

LaTonya's Life Saying: "Fully Rely On God" - F.R.O.G.

She was my momma, my "Momma Toni." She's been a rock since I was 11; I'm almost 46. I just knew she would help me when my mother would someday leave this world, but we plan, and the Lord laughs. I love her. I didn't know Christ because of her, but I learned what it meant to have a real relationship with Christ through her. Losing Toni was the last thing I expected, but I know the Lord is never wrong. I have never cried tears of joy during the grieving process, but through her exit from this reality, I now know what that feels like because I KNOW WHERE SHE IS! I've heard that when we go home, we ALL have our guardian angel with us to guide us home, BUT SOMETIMES, we can be SO CLOSE TO CHRIST that he will give our angel a "day off" and take us ourselves. How happy she must have been when she saw Christ's face. I thought I'd be scared facing this world without her, but I've been reassured that I'm more blessed than ever because Christ is getting first-hand news of our work straight from her. It's been scary, losing custody of my sons, mom getting more frail, getting older, and Toni's death just reassured me that "I'm going to be okay." I can make it without her because I have a relationship with Christ, and not only will I be okay here, but I will also see her again. Next time, it will be in glory, standing hand in hand with my son, Nathaniel. So, let's not mourn for her dear family. Let's REJOICE because our sister is at home making the way for us all. Dear Father, I pray you send the Holy Spirit to comfort Toni's family and friends now. Father, we hurt because we no longer have what was flesh now here with us, but we can be thankful in knowing that not only is Toni with you now, but that hundreds, if not thousands, of your children, will one day be at home with you because of her. While we have lost a light on this Earth, may it be rekindled in the light she created in us all. She expects to see us all again, and I do not plan to disappoint her. May we see each other again soon. Your Daughter, Carrie Ann Slick Kidd
