Obituary For Ms. Maureen Delene Nelson

Ms. Maureen Nelson was a caring sister, aunt, and friend. She left this world suddenly on Friday, February 12, 2021 at the age of 62.

She was born to William and Constance Nelson on March 17, 1958. After graduating from high school, Maureen attended Marshall University for a couple of years. She then decided to attend Medical Technology Veterans Administration Clinical Lab Assistant Program where she received her certification as a Medical Technology Laboratory Technician. Maureen went on to have a career as a Medical Laboratory professional with 35 years of progressive managerial and Information Technology support experience. She began her career at Beckley hospital as a Blood Bank Supervisor and was soon promoted to a Microbiology Supervisor at Raleigh General Hospital. In 1998, Maureen relocated to Waldorf, MD and continued to soar in her career becoming a Lab Systems Manager and Compliance Coordinator at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center. She then decided to retire and relocate to Charlotte, NC where she worked as a DCSC Supervisor at American Red Cross Donor Care and Support Center.

Maureen valued a great work ethic but more importantly she treasured family unity. She was the matriarch of the Nelson Family and made sure that the family spent time together during the holidays and vacations. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Maureen. She loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family. She had an uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily activities. Her pleasant personality was contagious to everyone she met.

Maureen is preceded in death by her paternal Grandfather, William Nelson; paternal Grandmother, Julia Nelson; maternal Grandfather, Naaman Clark; maternal Grandmother, Anna B. Clark; Father, William Arvin Nelson; Mother, Constance Nelson; Brother, William “Bro” Nelson; Nephew, Christopher Sean Shivers, Isaiah Shivers; and Niece Chante’ Shivers. Maureen will be remembered by her brother; Maurice (Jeanie), sisters, Gerri, Dina, and Tina (David); and many nephews and nieces; and great nephews and nieces. While, Maureen did not have any birth children she had a vital role in raising many of her nephews and nieces and they consider her as their second mom. She also, leaves behind her significant other Dwayne, dearest friend Vanessa and many other relatives and friends.

Maureen loved the Lord and gave her life to Christ. She believed that Jesus was the son of God and He died for all of our sins. She lived her life showing the love of God to others. Maureen was such a loving, caring and giving person that she gave to many charitable organizations such as St. Jude Partners in Hope, No Kid Hungry, and Susan G. Komen to name a few.

Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone she interacted with as well as those she reached but never met. Help her kindness, loyalty and compassion continue by making a donation to, or volunteering at, one of the organizations she loved.

Private family service will be 11:00am Saturday, March, 20, 2021 at Heart Of God Ministries 1703 S. Kanawha St. Beckley with Elder David L. Moore officiating.

There are no words to make the sadness go away, but have faith that comfort will surely come. No words can adequately celebrate a life that was so richly lived and that touch other lives, sending much love your way, Raymond Powell
