Obituary For Ms. Mildred Kay McGhee Wilson

Mildred Kay McGhee Wilson, 77, affectionately known as “Ma”, “Momma” and “MilMil” journeyed home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 2, 2021. Born July 24, 1944 in Greentown, West Virginia, Mildred dedicated her life to her family providing care for her parents, Erskine “Doc” and Ruby McGhee, while simultaneously raising her three children Alexia “Lexi”, Andrea “Scooby”, and Jason “Scotty”. A naturally gifted homemaker, she always made sure that Doc & Ruby’s house was prepared to receive friends, family and every guest that entered Greentown because everybody was sure to stop. Love, laughter and food were sure to greet anyone who visited and they always were made to feel like family.

As a member of the First Baptist Church of Greentown, Mildred knew the Lord, and she made sure her children did as well which is the greatest gift a parent can give their child. She was a beloved daughter, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, friend and neighbor. She was known for her blunt yet hilarious talk among family and friends but everyone knew that was just her way and everyone still loved her.

Millie Kay lived life according to her rules and, as a result, was beloved and adored and will be remembered and missed by many. She is survived by her daughter Mrs. Alexia “Lexi” Hatley and her son-in-law Terry Hatley Sr.; her son Mr. Jason “Scotty” McGhee and daughter-in-law Laura McGhee; her little brother Mr. William “Larry” McGhee and sister-in-law Jelina “Dee” McGhee; nephew Mr. Michael McGhee; grandchildren: Joy, Jordan, Jayda, Anna, Margaret, Caroline, and Terry; great-grandchildren: Micah, Aaron, Brandon, Jalen, and Jesiah and host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including her special nursing home friends.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic and current surge in variant outbreaks, the Family is holding an intimate graveside prayer service. They plan to hold a proper Home-going and Celebration of Life that will include family, friends and loved ones later when conditions allow. As we all grieve our loss during this time, the Family asks to please share your thoughts and best stories of Mildred in the condolences section.

Again, the Family will be in touch with future Celebration of Life plans.

Arrangements entrusted to Ritchie & Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley.

Mildred and McGhees lived next door to the Agee family during my childhood. My first cousin Alfred "Sam" Agee was her oldest brother. He was the son to Alfred Agee and Ruby Price Agee. All of the McGhee family after my uncle Alf passed away was my extended family. We cherish and loved one another like brothers and sisters instead of cousins. When we returned to Greentown after moving away to visit we found it difficult to say good night because we were in such good company, Mildred fought sickness throughout her life and she was a real soldier while in battle. She is now going to get her rewards. Rest in Peace Cuz, Erskine Agee & Family

There really is not a memory or story I can share about MilMil. The one thing that I can remember is that I loved her because she loved me. Whenever we went to Greentown, we would stop at Aunt Ruby's house and greeted with MilMil's smile and wit. I loved to just be in her presence. I can't really put a finger on it but I knew I loved to visit her. I can vividly her my mom calling out to "Milly Kay". They are now together once again. Gonna miss you MilMil. . . Love you into eternity. Connie Jones - Waldorf, Maryland
