Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Ms. Ruth Elane Greer (née Thompson) passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at the age of 80 in Beckley, WV. She was born on July 16, 1943, in Claremont, WV.

Ruth was a loving family member and friend, known for her quick wit and sense of humor. In her later years, she cherished spending time with her young grandchildren and her church family at Sky Ministries Church, Beckley, WV.

Ruth was a dedicated employee at Hilltop Nursing Home, where she worked tirelessly until her well-deserved retirement. Ruth was a 1961 graduate of Mount Hope High School.

Ruth was preceded in death by her father, Ennis Thompson, Sr.; mother, Alice Walker Thompson; brothers, Charles Loving and Paul D. Walker; sister, Lucille Loving; brother-in-law, Ashford Slaughter, and sister-in-law, Brenda Thompson.

Ruth is survived by her children, Theodus Greer, Jr., Deidre Spencer (Darren), Roosevelt Greer, and Ronald Greer; brothers, Ennis Thompson, Jr. (Janet) and Timothy Thompson; sisters, Carmen Slaughter, Jacqueline Robinson (Roger), Jo Ann Penn (Wayne), Vanessa Thompson, and Yolanda Hart (David); grandchildren, Shavar Greer, Natasha Maxwell, Joshua Moore, Zhane Billips, Chance Billips, Jordan Billips, and Tyson Billips and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

As per her request, she has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV.
