Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Shea Tanette Kenney, 43, of Beckley, WV, passed from this life into eternal rest on Thursday, August 25, 2016, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV.

She was born May 21, 1973, in Beckley, WV, to Mr. James Kenney Jr. of Cleveland, OH, and the late Betty Ann Griggs Kenney.

Shea was a graduate of Mt. Hope High School and attended WV Institute of Technology in Montgomery, WV. She was a former member of the Hillgrove Baptist Church, Derryhale, WV, where she participated with the youth and was a church usher. She later attended the St. Paul Baptist Temple, Beckley. She was employed with the Host Marriott Corporation in Beckley.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a brother, Brandon Kenney; grandmothers, Kathryn Kenney and Margaret Burks Graves; grandfathers, James Kenney Sr. and William Griggs Sr.; aunt, Jeanette Morris; uncle, William Griggs Jr.; great-grandmother Mary Griggs and great-grandfather, Eddie B. Griggs.

Shea was a very humble and kind-spirited individual who always greeted everyone with a warm smile. She was a strong, independent, and hard-working individual who loved her family and friends.

In addition to her father, survivors include her daughters, Jasmine and Alexis Kenney, both of Beckley, grandchildren, Janiyah Kenney and Jhameir Croner, both of Beckley, grandmother, Estelle Griggs of Mt. Hope, uncles, Donald (Eva) Kenney of Mt. Hope, Edward (Carolyn) Nowlin of Montgomery, Larry (Belinda) Griggs of Charleston and David (Nettie) Nowlin of Indianapolis, IN; aunts, Yvonne (Dennis) Washington of Cincinnati, Ohio, Rhonda (Bill) McKeown of Charleston, Cathy (Wayne) Anderson of Long Beach, CA, Juanita Merchant of Indianapolis, IN, special aunt, Barbara Kenney of Mt. Hope, and special friends, Carmella Calloway of Beckley and Aneetra Keith of Cross Lanes.

Funeral service will be at 1PM Wednesday, August, 31, 2016, at St. Paul Baptist Temple in Beckley, WV, with the Rev. Walter M. Leach and Rev. Phillip E. Copney Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park in Beckley.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
