Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Tonya Lavette Jackson departed this life on November 2, 2017 at Raleigh General Hospital.

Our beloved Tonya was born in Beckley, WV on July 3, 1973 to Thomas and Wanda Jackson. She was the youngest of three children.

Tonya was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. After graduation, she attended Marshall University, Huntington, WV and Mountain State University, Beckley, WV and nearly completed her Bachelors of Art degree.

Tonya began her long-term fight with Lupus at the tender age of 14. In spite of her health struggles, Tonya continued to dream, believe and have aspirations of being well and living a full life.

Tonya was baptized at a young age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Beckley, WV. She knew and loved the Lord. She was blessed with one son, Tevin Leevon Jackson and three beautiful grandchildren, whom she adored.

She loved to get on Facebook to post pictures and chat as well as to inspire others to appreciate the little things in life. She also enjoyed collecting angels and making cupcakes which brought a smile to her face. She liked to listen to music and watch movies, and spend time with family, especially her grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her devoted parents, Thomas and Wanda Jackson; son, Tevin Jackson (companion, Lindsey) of Beckley, WV; brothers, Thomas Larry (Kim) Jackson of Upper Marlboro, MD and Todd (Angela) Jackson of Fairlawn, OH; grandsons, Javeontae and Sebastian; granddaughter, Taleigha; special nieces, Taylor, Kiara, Melissa and Alisa; special nephew, Isaiah and a host of family and friends.

Tonya was a compassionate and caring person to everyone who knew her. She will truly be missed.

Service will be 12PM Friday, November 10, 2017 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church 142 Mool Ave., Beckley with Rev. Nelson Staples III officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Friends may call from 1PM-5PM Thursday at the funeral parlor and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
