Obituary For Ms. Viola Delores “Lois” Nicholes
Ms. Viola Delores “Lois” Nicholes, 77 went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV.
Born July 30,1944 in Summerlee, WV, she was the daughter of the late Charles Ray and Freddie Lee Burden Nicholes.
Lois was baptized and gave her life to the lord at an early age. She attended St. Paul Baptist Temple Church when able to be present. During her life she worked various jobs as a housekeeper and caregiver before becoming disabled. Before her health started to decline, she enjoyed the great outdoors. She loved gardening, planting flowers, fishing, traveling, but she most loved cooking. Granny, as most called her, loved spending time in the kitchen creating delicious meals for her family.
Granny was famous for her fried chicken, greens, potato salad, cornbread, and her hot rolls. Granny also had a special touch for sweets, her blackberry cobbler and homemade rice pudding was among the few.
Granny always had an astounding way of finding happiness in all her daily activities. Her pleasant and feisty personality was contagious to everyone she met. She always greeted everyone with a smile and called them “Sweet Sweet.” Our beloved mother battled with serious medical conditions in the past years, but always showed courage in facing life’s challenges with a smile. Granny loved her family and always engaged family togetherness and welcomed everyone. Her cheerful attitude and bright smile always filled a room. She touched many lives in her own special way. You could always count on her to give you the truth “Granny style” even if it sometimes hurt.
Granny met the love of her life, our father, Mr. Wesley Adkins, whom she called “Peachie.” They remained together 54 years until his passing on June 6, 2021. In addition to her parents she was proceeded in death by a sister; Rosetta M. Fuller; brothers, Charles F. Nicholes, Alvin R. Burden, George L. Nicholes, Calvester R. Nicholes, and Chauncey L. Nicholes; nieces, Tonya R. Marion, Lolita E. Freeman and Francine Cosby; nephews, Charles D. Nicholes and Michael D.Nicholes; great-nephew, Desmond Newsom and sister-in-law, Lucenda Nicholes.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory three daughters, Donna (Jayne) Nicholes of Harvey WV, Patricia A. Nicholes of Oak Hill, WV and Tiffany “TiffTiff” (Nathan) Rowe of Milton, PA; sisters, Mary G. Nicholes of Beckley, WV, Beverly L. Walker of Winston-Salem, NC; brother, Bedford E. Nicholes of Hilltop, WV; five grandchildren, Danisha “NeeNeeBird” Nicholes, Laketra “KeKe” Nicholes, Ashley “Ashbird” Nicholes, Cierra ‘CB” Leftwich, Brianna “BriBri” Gwendolynn “Gwennie” Robinson and Cannan “LilMan” Robinson; five great-grandchildren, Janiya “Punkin” Coats, Nevaeh “NuNu” Nicholes, Tyrick “Ty” Hairston, Deshawne “DaeDae” Taylor and Nahveen Woodson; very special longtime friend, Earl “Puddin” Young and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She will be truly missed by all those who knew her.
