Obituaries – Their Stories Live On

Rev. Abner C. Wright, Sr., 91, of Beckley died Sunday, September 25, 2016.

Born June 14, 1925 in North Beckley, WV, he was the son of the late Asa and Virginia Wright.

He was united in marriage to the late Rev. Cornelia Wright.

His longest tenure was served at St. Matthew A.M.E. Church, Beckley where he was pastor for 20 years.

He received his formal education in the West Virginia school system and religious training in the West Virginia A.M.E Conference.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by daughters, Doretta Hawkins and Paula Jean Wright; brothers, Joseph Wright and Massie Wright; sisters, Eloise Copney, Edith Hubbard, Henrietta Wright, Harriet Wright, Hermedale Wright, Norvella Wright-Martin, and Carolyn Wright.

Those left to cherish precious memories are his daughters, Diana Davis and Paulette Satterfield; sons, Abner ôChuckieö Wright, Jr., Rev. Dr. Frederick A. (Jennifer) Wright; sister, Kathleen Wright; brother, William (Sonja Jean) Wright; sisters-in-law, Lorena (Ozzie) Christian, Willie Ann Randle; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 1:00P.M. Friday, September 30, 2016 at Heart of God Ministries, 1703 So. Kanawha St., Beckley with Rev. Dr. Frederick Wright, Rev. Debra Smoot, and Bishop Fred T. Simms officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
