Obituary For Rev. Robert Daniel "O" Morton

Reverend Robert D. Morton, also known by many as “O”, 75, of Beckley, WV transitioned on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. In lieu of flowers and food, the family requests donations to be made to the Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive Beckley, WV 25801 or Hilltop Baptist Convention Center, 285 The Baptist Road Hilltop, WV 25855.

Reverend Robert D. Morton was born on April 3, 1946, in Mullens, WV, he was the son of the late William Morton and Ethel Miller-Morton. He was a retired pastor and employee of the Raleigh County Public Schools.

He was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, faithful pastor, and an active member of the Hilltop Baptist Convention Center.

Reverend RD Morton attended Bluefield State College and Appalachian Bible College. In addition, he was also the Public Relations Officer for the City of Beckley, WV.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Melvin and Henry Morton, and daughters Cheryl Porter and Zina Morton Davis James.

Left to cherish irreplaceable memories are his wife, Mary E. Morton of Beckley, WV, his children, Robert O. Morton (Genice, Savannah, and Hannah) of Jackson, MS, Cassandra A. Owens (Clarence and James) of Beckley, WV, Alvin W. Morton, I (Katelynne and Lexii) of Enfield, CT, his grandchildren William Clarence Davis, II of Marietta, GA and James Crawford, Jr. of Florida, his surviving siblings, James Morton (Rose) of Beckley, WV, Vernell Morton “Lefty” (Anna Cook) of Beckley, WV, Samuel Morton (Larbell) of Columbus, OH, and Viola Martin (Joseph) of Silver Springs, MD, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones.

Funeral services will be convened at 11:00AM Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at the Central Baptist Church 197 Brooks Street Beckley, WV 25801 with Reverend Franklin Hairston moderating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens 5250 Robert C. Byrd Drive Prosperity.

Friends and extended family, while wearing masks and observing social distancing, may view and visit with the family one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
